Providing design services for one of America’s most innovative airports since 1973
From 1973 to 1987 Bowen led the renovation and replacement of more than 900,000 SF of space at the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The project scope included complete renovation of all ticketing lobbies and counters for ten major airlines, baggage claim and make-up areas, enplaning and deplaning levels for passengers, the addition of a speedwalk from the long- term parking areas, an elevated roadway structure and the connection to Cleveland’s rapid transit system underground to allow passengers to travel from the airport to downtown Cleveland via rapid transit.
Included in the Airport Expansion were exterior improvements. The Field Side Improvements included the airfield improvements, runways, overlays, taxiways, drainage systems, and airfield lighting and paving.
Entire areas of the airport were removed and replaced…in essence, we built a new airport around an existing one.
As the 1990’s came around Bowen provided further renovation and design work to the main lobby, ticketing, baggage claim and “A” and “B” concourses.
In the early 2000’s Bowen provided architecture for a significant parking structure and pedestrian bridges.
